Personal statement

I was born in London and grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne and Lagos (Nigeria).

I hold a PhD (in Project Management) from Northumbria University. I hold a second PhD (in Business) from the University of Hull. I subsequently obtained a third PhD (in Law) from Aberystwyth University. I am a Barrister, having been called to the Bar of England & Wales (Honourable Society of the Middle Temple).

I have considerable prior academic experience here in the United Kingdom (Senior Lecturer/Lecturer, Northumbria University and University of Southampton), South Africa (Associate Professor/Professor, University of the Witwatersrand and University of Johannesburg), and the United Arab Emirates (Professor, British University in Dubai and the University of Sharjah). I have served as Visiting Professor at the Centre for Systems Studies, University of Hull since June 2014.

I am currently an Associate editor of Production Planning & Control. In the past, I have served on the editorial board of the International Journal of Project Management. I also previously served (from 2013 to 2014) as the Associate Editor for Acta Commercii. My editorial service also includes co-editorship of the 50th anniversary publication of the Project Management Journal.

I have a longstanding passion for understanding how project-oriented and project-centric organisations can realise successful outcomes in their endeavours. Organised by themes, the majority of my research touches on (i) Implementation of projects, (ii) Project failure mitigation, (iii) Project-Operations interfaces, and (iv) Dispute resolution in projects.

I have supervised several PhDs to successful completion (in the United Kingdom, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Brazil). I have also served as external examiner for several doctoral examinations (PhD, DBA and DTech) here in the United Kingdom and in France, South Africa, India, and the United Arab Emirates. I welcome enquiries for PhD supervision in any broad area of project management and/or engineering management (including its intersection with law).
